Role Summary

First full-time engineer at Loop, a Seed stage startup based in Brooklyn, NY. Reports directly to the Chief Product and Technology Officer, Chris Fischer.

We are developing mobile and desktop experiences that allow our users to discover, cultivate, activate, and expand their relationships with the use of AI and incredible design.

Loop is based in Brooklyn, NY and we’re ideally looking for a candidate excited for a hybrid (1-2x week) environment out of our DUMBO office.

About You

• You Love solving tough problems: You thrive in designing and building scalable, high-performance systems. As one of the first engineers on the team, you will collaborate closely with our CPTO, other engineers, and product team members to develop solutions that solve new problems using LLMs and proven data processing techniques and delivering an AI forward consumer UX. We’re building something new that hasn’t been done before.
• Independent and Self-Motivated: You’re capable of taking ownership of backend systems but have worked in full stack environments specifically with react / react native. You work autonomously proactively incorporating feedback from stakeholders and customers. You quickly digest information and craft elegant solutions to problems.
• Team-Oriented Collaborator: Based in or near NYC, you value in-person collaboration (flexibly) and are open to work from our DUMBO office as needed. We believe in work flexibility, but also believe in-person collaboration can increase speed, innovation, teamwork, and fun.

Responsibilities

• Drive architecture and development end to end across our mobile and web products.
• Ensure robust and scalable API development, integrating third-party services and handling complex data flows from multiple external and first party sources. There’s a lot of data to deal with and you’re excited to continue learning how to combine this with LLMs to solve problems in a new way.
• Work closely with other engineers and designers to design and implement new features and functionality for our mobile and web platforms.
• Participate in system design discussions, providing insights on best practices and new technologies.
• Monitor, debug, and improve backend performance while keeping an eye on security and privacy of user data.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in backend development, with proficiency in Typescript, Javascript, Python, or similar languages. You also need experience with front end technologies preferably React our front-end stack is React Native (mobile) with Typescript in most other areas today. We likely will add a web or desktop product in the future as well.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, GCP) and containerization (e.g., Docker, etc.) You don’t have to be a devops expert but you feel confident in building and managing a product ready application environment.
• Familiarity with SQL and NoSQL databases specifically AWS variants / services, with experience optimizing for performance and scalability.
• Experience in startup environments is a plus, but we also value strong engineers looking to transition from larger companies into the startup world.
